what is your passion?

Passion: ‘a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept

When was the last time you asked yourself ‘what is my passion, what will truly make me happy?’  The fact is so few do instead they choose a career.  Who can truly say they’re passionate about their career?  That person finding cures for diseases – of course, or the educators in this world.  The musicians and artists and those with a passion for the sport they play.  The ones with a love for religion and food.  A  passion for law and history.

But can you say you are passionate about being a hotel manager or a banker, a secretary or receptionist.  And in no way am I putting these jobs down – but are they making you happy, I’ve always been in the corporate world in a supporting role from mail clerk to copy assistant and reception and the more I started to travel with each journey I realized how much I hate the corporate because I wasn’t following my true passion, travel.

There is nothing in this world like travel, it cuts through, clarifies and defines who we are.  It forces you to adapt and accept and different way of life and customs.  You see the world through different eyes and you appreciate as well as your own, you learn to accept and understand from the richest countries to the poorest.  You see stereotypes and pre-conceived notions about a people’s shattered.  You find safety where there should be violence, a clean city that is believed dirty and you find happiness among what should be misery.

Travel reaches deep down in your soul and it moves you – it makes you laugh and cry and it allows you to see that we are not so different.  It cuts through languages and customs and beliefs and you see so much of yourself in this world.  Travel is exciting and it brings happiness.  It sings, it cradles and it is gentle it shares and cares for you.  It takes you on a spiritual journey you never thought possible.

Travel is also violent and it can scream, it can be unforgiving and even merciless.  Travel can bring disappointment and despair.  It can bring tears, desperation and pain.

But above all else travel is necessary as it show the world all it has for you, but even more so what you have for it.  Go and board that train, plane bus or boat – or get in your car and start driving and pursue your passion.
