My Top 5 Everything in Bangkok – Part 1

During my eight day adventure I experienced all this absolutely amazing city has to offer.  The Thai culture is fascinating and they are ready to share with the world.  And with all I did I always have my favorite’s.  Here is the first of my top 5 everything in Bangkok.

Museums

  1. National Gallery – for those wanting Picasso, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet and all the other greats this is your spot along with Thai artists and artifacts.
  2. Bangkok National Museum – the name pretty much says it all.  Offering exhibits of Thai art and history it is also the largest museum in Southeast Asia. http://www.virtualmuseum.finearts.go.th/bangkoknationalmuseums/index.php/th/
  3. Art in Paradise – it is a 3D art museum and all I can say is wow, like nothing I’ve ever experienced.  It is quite fascinating. https://www.artinparadise.co/
  4. Bangkok Art & Cultural Centre – for those that want everything under one roof this is it.  It offers everything from art, dance, theater, film and design. http://www.bacc.or.th/
  5. Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) – I am not the biggest fan of contemporary art but I still had a good time and may times asking the question ‘that’s art?’ http://www.mocabangkok.com/

There is something about art that captures and can captivate us and stir a multitude of emotions.  From the works of Dali, Rembrandt and Picasso to Warhol and the contemporary works of today.  And while I know we’ll be able to define what is art – we can always question it.

Below are two links of two pieces that the television ’60 Minutes’ did on contemporary art questioning exactly it is.  It became one of the most controversial stories they’d ever done.  For all you lovers of contemporary art this is something for you.

Restaurants

  1. Bangkok Spice – a menu that easily competes with Kurissa, choices that will make it near impossible to decide, the pineapple fried rice is amazing and for the seafood lover you must try the Tom Yay Talay – you know the meal is amazing if are eating foods you thought you’d like such as squid – this place is a must.  http://bangkokspice.squarespace.com/
  2. Tealicious Bangkok – for those that want to enjoy an authentic Thai dish great meal and your wallet still love you, this is a great place.  Just every dish you could ask for.  The Nam Took Moo was among my favorites.  http://tealiciousbangkok.com/
  3. Manahaga – this is modern Thai cuisine, many of the dishes I had during my stay are on their menu adding another layer of flavor but always staying true to its root.  If you visit you must try fried banana blossom cake.  I am not the biggest lover of bananas, I am now.  For dinner I had Tom Kha Gai.  This is one I’ll be back on my next trip. http://www.mahanaga.com/discover-our-menu/
  4. Cocette – I can never travel to any city without having a steak I am either happy or sad when it comes to steak and I was very happy here.  It is all Australian beef and it is out of this world.  All the steaks are cooked over charcoal and the flavor is among the best I have ever had.  If you visit go for the Australian Tomahawk Wagyu.  http://www.cocotte-bangkok.com/
  5. Enoteca – an Italian restaurant in Bangkok?  Yes and if you crave it you must visit Enoteca, can easily compete with any restaurant in the US, try the ravioli aperto and the tenerone di servo.  And for those of you with the curiosity factor, they do have roasted pigeon on the menu.  http://www.enotecabangkok.com/

Beers

Just like the foods I’d enjoy during my stay – I also developed a taste for Thai beer and in eight days I had plenty and for those that make it here are five you must try.  These are beers like you’ve never had.

  1. Phuket Lager Beer – now if you want a beer with more of ‘fruity’ (a word most of us don’t use when describing beer).  It has hints of lime and grass.  It is a pale lager and I will admit I drank this more than any of the other beers.
  2. Singha – this is the city’s most popular local beer.  It is a pale lager that started back in the 1930’s so I would learn.  It is a full body 100% barley malt, a strong bold flavor.
  3. Thai Amarit Bangkok – the taste is light, malty sweetness.  It’s a pale color with an aroma of mild grains with a light hop bitterness.
  4. Leo – this is a full flavored beer that will get a buzz faster than any beer I had, a full flavored beer with a smooth and pleasant finish
  5. Eleventh Fort Black India – I am not a fan of dark beers but I always make it a point to try one.  This beer is amazing.  It has intense hop flavor with black malts, sea salt and Akha Ama coffee beans.
