Bring Your Bike – 5 very bike friendly cities

I have will always believe the only way to see a city is walking.  There are some prefer the guided tours and there are the ones that get a map and see as much as possible for the amount of time they are vacation, but that’s no way to appreciate, admire and experience a city.  For those of you that want to step out of the ordinary and use a different type of transportation where you still use the feet only this time you’re using them to pedal a bike through the streets of the city are in.

Biking allows you to go through the neighborhoods and see how the people live.  And a true feel for the city.  Biking takes you in the heart of a city, its neighborhoods and the people that call it home perhaps even meet a few.  It is the neighborhoods where will not find that cafe, pur even restaurant on any map.  Biking gives you freedom as you set your own pace.  Here are my five favorite cities I have rode a bike in.

  1. Boston – over the two years Boston has become even more bike friendly with back paths on all the major streets.  In addition there are multitudes of places in the city to rent.  It is the ‘Blue Bike’ program and for those of that prefer nature this city will keep you happy. https://boston.curbed.com/maps/best-bike-paths-boston-cambridge-somerville-massachusetts
  2. Nantucket – you and your wallet might not be speaking after a trip to this island three hours away from Boston.  But for you bike enthusiasts you’ll be in heaven.  Multitudes of bike paths from the novice to the ones that live for it the trails in Nantucket are a must for all of you.  https://www.nantucket-ma.gov/985/Nantucket-Bike-Paths
  3. Munich – on my last day in Munich I decided to rent a bike ad I am glad I did the true way to see a city is its neighborhoods, anyone of us can walk a city or take public transportation but that is the easy way out.  But if you ever do visit this beautiful city rent a bike and see the real Munich. https://www.komoot.com/guide/304/cycling-around-munich
  4. Mykonos – if there was just one place I had to bike for the rest of my life Mykonos would be that place.  Not only do you get some amazing trails but you get the beautiful seaside of Mykonos along with white sandy beaches under a sun filled blue sky.  https://www.grcycling.com/tours/mykonos-cycling/
  5. Amsterdam – this was the second I’d visit on my first trip to Europe and I have never seen so many bikes in my life, I believe there were more bikes than cars.  Now I did not rent a bike while I was, truthfully it intimidated me but for those that want to challenge their nerves more than any this is a place for you.  https://www.bikemap.net/en/l/2759794/
