The Old City

Just before I entered the Old City I stopped and stared at the homes that spread over the Mountain of Olives, a site I’d seen to many times it was embedded in my memory.  So often it began a newscast because an act of violence had occurred in Jerusalem and at that moment people around the world cancel their trip to Jerusalem.  For those of you that have not figured it out – violence is universal – but the moment you cancel a trip because of that you are the one that loses out.

I could only say WOW!! it was now a reality I was inside The Old City.  As a man who has traveled all over this world each and every country I visit I find something fascinating, but what will always take a journey to even a higher level is when you enter a place that its place in history that can’t be measured, its importance to every single human on the planet can’t be described, defined or even explained.  A place you not only appreciate but you must respect it because if this place did not exist neither would anyone of us.

The Old City is divided into four quarters each one as fascinating the other, telling its own story.  It is walled within modern Jerusalem and it is one of the most fascinating places I have ever set foot in.  The emotions can’t be described.  One thing that will always bind are the next adventure we seek, a place in this world where nothing will stop you from visiting it, you will not be happy until you finally see it for real.  For me that was happening.

The city is home to the ancient ruins of the past with just as much relevance in the present and maybe even more in the future.  You could also find food native to the people of that quarter, you could also buy everything goods from rugs to clothing.  With each turn I just got deeper and deeper into this history.

The Old City is home to many key sites of religious importance.  The Dome of the Rock and al – Aqsa Mosque for Muslims and The Temple Mount.  And the the most recognized and the most important place for Jews around the world, the Western Wall.  If you see one thing in all of Jerusalem this must be it.

IF YOU DO VISIT THE OLD CITY THERE ARE YOUNG MEN WALKING THROUGHOUT DRESSED IN BLUE BLAZERS PROMISING YOU PEACE FOREVER AND THEY WILL TIE A RED RIBBON ON YOUR WRIST – THEY ARE LOOKING FOR MONEY SO STEER CLEAR OF THEM AND IF THEY APPROACH YOU WALK AWAY.  I WAS ONE OF THEIR VICTIMS I DON’T WANT ANY OF YOU TOO BE ONE.
