4 Places to visit in Santiago, Chile

Buenos Aires is one of the most beautiful cities you will ever city you can ever visit.  It has energy and passion that makes ‘The Paris of South America’, and after living there I see why so many flock to BA.  Well I flock to Santiago, Chile a stunning city lining the coast of the Pacific Ocean.  From the Andes Mountains that embrace it to the beautiful beaches that drape it this is one city you must visit to see and appreciate   And if you do here are four things you must see and do:

1. San Cristobal Hill – the absolute best place to see this city from high above.  At 300 miles above the city it is the second highest point in the city.  It was named by Spanish Conquistadors for St. Christopher.  There is a 22cm statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, an amphitheater and chapel and when the sun sets over the city this is the one place you must be.

2. Santiago Metropolitan Park –  in the center of the city the park is a place you spread out over a few days with the multitude of things to see and do beginning with the city’s National Zoo with a multitude of animals from predators to prey and just about every other animal in between.  It is also home to a Japanese Garden, a Centennial Expo, Chile’s history in Photos.  The Mirador Amphitheater and House of Culture Anahuac and those that want to work out Outdoor Fitness Reebok awaits you there are even two pools and so much more to the point you could spend your entire visit here.

3.  Chilean National Fine Arts Museum– as I do in every city I must at least two of its museums and this would my first.  And it did not disappoint.  Marble statues of national and international artists welcome you on the ground floor.  You will also find a room of oil paintings one of which is the Liberator Bernard O’Higgins.  You will also find Italian drawings, many  works of Spanish artists and sculptures by African sculptures.

4. Museum of Memory and Human Rights

‘to make known the systematic human rights violations by the Chilean state between 1973 and 1990 so that ethical reflection about memory, solidarity and importance of human rights national wil be strengthened so that Never Again will these events that attack human dignity be repeated’

This museum is a remembrance of the tragedy that occurred 9/11/73 with the assassination of President Salvador Allende was killed.  The museum traces the history Pinochet dictatorship.  From its beginning to its implications, commemorating abuse victims faced under its regime. It details everything during that time from newspaper clippings to video footage of detention centers.  If there is one museum you must see it is this one.
