When visited Bogota everyone said to stay away – it’s this and it’s that without knowing a thing about it. I had a great time in Bogota, this city has a lot to offer and like so many other places people won’t go solely because of it’s location these are my favorite,
- If you do only one thing in Bogota visit Monserratte, a mountain that rises 3,152 metres (10, 341 feet) above the sea level and it dominates the city center. A church built in the 17th century sits atop it with a shrine devoted to “El Señor Caído” (Fallen Lord). - Macarena. This could be compared to SoHo in New York City, Palermo in Buenos Aires or Boston’s South End. The area is surrounded by “Torres del Parque”, SantaMaria Bullring, and Monserrate Mountain. It is an area surrounded by universities with streets lined with coffee shops, restaurants and bars. - Zipaquira is a colonial settlement with a population of around 70,000 about on hour outside of Bogota it is one of the oldest cities in Colombia dating back to the Spanish conquest. Gonzales Forero Square is the city center here you will find buildings that have conserved their colonial style, many of which are national monuments. - National Museum of Colombia – as the name says this is all about what made Colombia the country is today. It’s history and culture. - Simon Bolivar Square – this is the main square in Bogota. - The Salt Cathedral – the only reason this made the list is because I went there. It is about 35, 40 minute drive and personally I feel it was a let down. As the description reads, it is an old salt mine that has since been turned into a cathedral. So I don’t know what I was expecting. For those of that have an appreciation for church then you must visit. - Theatron – if you go to any nightclub in Bogota this must be it. While it does draw a majority gay clientele it is one of the biggest nightclubs in the western hemisphere, four floors each with a multitude of smaller rooms playing all kinds of music that will satisfy every taste in music and as long as you keep your cup it is open bar. https://www.portaltheatron.co/
- Iglesia Museo de Santa Clara – now this is a church, it is the oldest in Bogota and more beautiful than any church in the city. And close to Simon Bolivar Square. The decoration and works of art can not be missed when you are in Bogota.
