การผจญภัยในกรุงเทพฯ – Adventures in Bangkok

When I decided to add Bangkok to the Asian leg of my journey my attitude was you’re here you might as well go see it.  I had heard mixed reviews about it, but as always I always travel with an open mind having no preconceived beliefs at all.  Well in my eight nights there I found amazing and like Australia the nineteen hour flight is worth every single minute in the air and even though I flew from Tokyo which took an excruciating six hours after eight days I would’ve had no problem with a nineteen hour flight either, for this city is fascinating.

Once I’d checked into the hotel after my grueling six hours flight from Tokyo I went in search of some authentic Thai food.  The streets were lined with vendors each one offering foods native to the Thai people.  The difference with the vendors here than the US is they weren’t hot dog and hamburger stands we a re used to.  Instead it is a buffet and you choose what you want and how much of it.  They were all dishes native to Thailand, none of which indicated what it was – you know what animal you were eating whether be mammal or fish they didn’t care as long as you paid on exit.

I had absolutely no idea what I had because something else I’d come to find is the street vendors do not speak English.  You’re allowed to look but not touch until you have paid for your dinner.  There are some vendors that cook your food while you sit and hope that you have had this meal before.  Nut, gluten, shellfish or whatever allergy you might was irrelevant, just cross your fingers and enjoy.

Once I’d finished what I believed to be chicken I started walking as nightfall began.  Bangkok has a calm about it, even with all that surrounds you, it is very relaxing.   And for the next eight it was all mine.
