As a man who has traveled all over this world each and every country I visit I find something fascinating, but what will always take a journey to even a higher level is when you enter a place that its place in history can’t be measured, its importance to every single human on the planet can’t be described, defined or even explained. A place you not only appreciate but you must respect it because if this place did not exist neither would anyone of us. It sits beneath a mountain, embraced by a multitude of walls and topped with a Golden Dome, it is The Old City.
It covers .35 square miles walled area and it is divided into four quarters Armenian, Christian, Muslim and Jewish and for such a small space (0.35 square miles to be exact) all that is inside is overwhelming and I barely scratched the surface but for what I did see, I was in total awe. My first piece of advice for those of you that will visit, get a map!!! Even with all the signs throughout directing you, one wrong turn and you are easily lost as I would experience throughout my visit. But even with each wrong turn what I did see fascinated me.
The city is home to the ancient ruins of the past with just as much relevance in the present and maybe even more in the future. You could also find food native to the people of that quarter, you could also buy everything goods from rugs to clothing. With each turn I just got deeper and deeper into this history.
Each quarter was different from another each one their own design, and that just added to the beauty. After a few hours of getting lost with every turn I made my way back to the entrance, it was time to go to the ‘wall.’
